Meeting of teachers for assessing the education status of schools at grass root level in Kashmir on 29th June 2018

On June 29th 2018, an awareness programme for children with disabilities was held at Government degree college Anantnag in the college auditorium. the programme was organised by Humanity Welfare Organisation Helpline in collaboration government Degree college Anantnag supported by World vision India. The objective of holding the awareness programme was to know about the ground situation of socio economic and educational status of persons with disabilities in Jammu and Kashmir and the implementation of Disability Act 1998 at the community levels. The persons with disabilities from district Anantnag and Kulgam participated in the programme along the stake holders including Child Development project officer Bijbehara Syed Tahira Bashir, Tehsil Social Welfare officer Dooru, Tehsil Social welfare officer Bijbehara, Tehsil Social Welfare officer Kokernag. various ICDS Workers from Bijbehara Project. The Principal of Government degree college Boys Anantnag Professor Bashir Ahmad Rather was the chief Guest on the occasion and Ms. Dilruba Rasool HOD English was the guest of honour on the occasion.

Javed Ahmad Tak the organisor of the programme and chairperson of the Humanity Welfare Organisation HELPline gave the welcome note and explained the aims and the objectives of the programme. He was of the view that time has come that we should look disability on human Rights and the developmental models and not on charity and medical models. The education is the tool to empower persons with disabilities and the educational institutions should be disable friendly and accessible so that all persons with disabilities are able to live an independent life., Tak Added

Ms Anjana Senior Manager World Vision India introduction and key note ideas about the programmes of World Vision India. She stressed audience to provide inputs and feedback so that World vision can formulate further programmes to empower the persons with disabilities of Jammu and Kashmir.

Professor Dilruba Rasool stressed that families of persons with disabilities to give care and protection to their disable children and take care of their studies so that children with disabilities could flourish and develop well.

Ms. Susheela programme Manager Disability affairs gave presentations on status of disability legislations in India and status of disability in J&K.

Principal Government of Degree college Anantnag Bashir Ahmad Rather stressed on authorities to listen to the issues faced by the persons with disabilities and ensure early redressal without unnecessary delays. He explained the models of disability and gave information about the programmes run for the development of students with disabilities in Degree college Anantnag.

Two technical sessions were run by Ms Susheela and Ms Anjana. There was a serious exchange of thoughts and views by persons with disabilities with the stake holders. All the persons with disabilities had deliberations with the social welfare officers and the serious note on challenges faced by the persons with disabilities in J&K regarding education, employment, accessibility, provision of aids and appliances etc.
